Main Info
Description
Lady Amherst are native to southwestern China and northern Myanmar. They get their name from Lady Sarah Amherst who first introduced them to England on her estate near Woburn Abbey, outside of London.
With a unique and spectacular appearance, the males have a black and white nuchal cape and a red crest, a long tail with black barring and red, blue, dark green, white, and yellow plumage underneath. Similar to the Red Golden pheasant they are a type of ruffed pheasant. See last picture for mating display which is also what the Red Golden species does being a ruffed pheasant. The hen is a mottled-brown with fine barring similar to a red golden female except they are darker and have blue skin instead of yellow.
Laying season Late March/ April
